I was a foot doctor for a few years, but an injury forced me to sell my practice. What job can I get now?

I had been very successful in medical sales both in wound care and medical devices for the last ten years. The company I had been working for just closed their division so I am no longer working and it seems hard to get another job. Why is this the case and does anyone have any suggestions?

Since you have a PhD and lots of sales background you could teach.

You did not state what your injury was and if it is a long term affect on your ability to perform certain task.
Consider reviewing case files for personal injury lawyers, consider being an insurance company consultant on foot injuries, consider teaching–junior college level or higher, consider sales in medical software, consider working for a hospital in physician relations/credentialing.

Why did you lose your medical license?

I read one of the answers that eluded to something of an idea. I would look at providing disability income policies to the physician marketplace. At least here in Idaho Union Central Life Insurance Co. holds the endorsement for the Idaho Medical Association. Not only are you a physician and understand other physicians, you also have a great cautionary story to share with others about disabilities and what can happen. Statistically, 92% of physicians own a non-cancellable, guaranteed renewable individual disability income policy. Of course, if you would have had one of these, you would not have your question on yahoo answers.
Go to and look into this. You can be an independent contractor (self-employed) with this company. This is not different than where you were before as a foot doctor also. You would be a great candidate for this type of work. Seriously look into this. In your case if you are good with people, this would be a fantastic fit for you.
I hope this helps.
