Yeah I hear the same thing. Maybe we got 8 MRIs, don’t know. i know ppl who had theirs in 2 weeks. Is that too long? There is priority listing yes. Location too. Population is spread and small over the NWT, Yukon and Nenivut, maybe only one there? Point is, health care was debated at the same time in the US & Canada. Canada chose guaranteed coverage, and Nixon chose payers only. We suffered a shortage of care when AMERICAN hospitals lured dctrs/nrs with higher pay. THAT is when problems began.

My country (U.S.) is so far behind on things like this and we are so misled by news and politicians I really understand now why other countries hate us and think we are arrogant assholes. Im starting to see America as a selfish country where the rich want to help themselves instead of caring for everyone. Jut watched the Michael Moore documentary called Sicko and I could not believe what I saw. American dream my fuckin ass.

I keep telling people how far ahead Canada and other countries are of America on healthcare and I keep getting that, “Canada has like 7 mri machines in Canada.” Do you know if that is true or not? Evrytime I run across something about Canada it is something positive. I hope I can live in a country like that one day.

I don’t think it is a who’s better. I can’t debate the flaws in our system in Canada, we have some but neither i nor my retired parents have encountered any. It is a system where premiums, rejection and doubts don’t exist. I can bring my daughter to any doctor 24/7 with a swipe of a card. See a doctor, Xray, return, no charge. Yes how about going every day if you are really concerned, no charge. For the everyday twisted ankle, broken bones, bad kids cough, I’ll take this system, and fix the rest

Ya know… as a loyal American, I want to say something negative about Canada here… I really do. But I’m drinking Crown Royal right now and it’s so damn delicious I’m tempted to stand up and sing “Oh Canada.”

Their health-care system has its positives and negatives. They’ve also afflicted us with Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, and Michael Buble. This could qualify as an act of war. But those fuckin Canucks sure know how to make a great whiskey!

*lifts glass* Cheers to my Northern neighbors!

    : )

klrocker91, I don’t know if you’re being sarcastic or not… but if you’re serious, I think you’re confused. An American hospital cannot refuse to stabilize any patient. After they are stabilized, however, they can be bounced based on lack of insurance coverage.

I’ve never lived in the States and grew up in Toronto but here’s my experience. My mom had cancer- it took less than a week to get her into surgery…cost- $0. My family was lower class but because of this system we never had to worry about cost and could concentrate on helping my mom get better. You Americans are being duped into thinking it’s impossible to help everyone. I really hope for your sakes this changes for you.

He knows that because he isnt an ignorant moron and he happens to know a thing or two about Government. No Canadian citizen can be denied health care. In the U.S if your pockets are empty your simply tossed out into the back alley of the hospital. Its just fact, look it up, or see it for yourself in one of many documentaries about the healthcare crisis. People die in hospitals because their health care providers dont cover that particular hospital. Hopefully Obama can lighten this mess.

A Medicare for all plan would save money.

Medicare’s overhead is only 3% versus 20% for private insurance. A tax increase may not be need because funding can come from premiums sent to HMOs.

No, in Canada you can’t be denied health care regardless of your ability to pay. In the US if you dont have health insurance you can be denied.

and the good thing about America’s health care system is that u cannot be denied health treatment regardless of your ability to pay for the care

i can tell u this Universal Heatlh Care would never work in the U.S. cause all the good doctors would leave people wouldn’t wanna pay the extra tax and Americans definetly don’t like to be told what 2 do

Geneva: I’m not advocating for the government to step in and cover all of our needs, I simply believe there are certain services the government should make sure every person has access to. Anyone who is not wealthy in America and lacks healthcare cannot afford to get sick. Many of the jobs poor people get don’t offer healthcare coverage and indep. healthcare plans are often not affordable. Do you think the 40+ million w/o healthcare simply choose to not get it?

samo:me getting behind on my gas bill had nothing to do w/ the cost of my health care. It had everything to do with my irresponsibility but I won’t go into that…But I could have expected the gov’t to help me through LIHEAP because I “fell on hard times” but the fact is I didn’t & neither do most of the people who apply for LIHEAP-my mother worked for them-I know! I consider it a gov’t handout when people can afford healthcare, but don’t like to pay it & many people that R yelling for it can.
